The DVFF Through 50 Years

Jim McCombs fishing Hot Creek, Sept. 2008

Welcome to the Diablo Valley Fly Fishermen club website. We are a group of men and women who share a common interest in the sport of fly fishing. The members of the DVFF help each other develop their skills and knowledge in the pursuit of this fascinating sport.

The DVFF serves its members through club activities and resources including a novice seminar, a Youth Fly Fishing program, skills seminars, fishing outings, guest speakers at regular meetings, an online forum, a DVD lending library, Facebook page, and an annual auction.

The club sponsors a scholarship for research in Fisheries Biology and/or Riparian or Limnetic Ecology by a student of the UC Davis College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Center of Aquatic Biology and Aquaculture. The DVFF also supports a large Trout In the Classroom program and sponsors the local Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing-Martinez, CA program.

Anyone interested in fly fishing is eligible and welcome to become a member of the DVFF.

A Bay Area Angler’s Guide to Fly Fishing
Locations & Timing, with George Revel

George Revel – owner of Lost Coast Outfitters - The San Francisco Fly Shop and a California Trout Ambassador – will describe, month by month, some of his favorite destinations near and far. Based on a right-place/right-time approach, George will share his passion for creating advocates for our outdoor places by introducing people to fly fishing. In his words, “Life is better around a campfire.”

George began fly fishing at age 12, at the age of 13 won his first casting competition and later set records in the fly distance events. He became the youngest fly caster ever to pass the Fly Fishing Federation’s casting certification process at the age of 13. George is a National Fly Casting Champion, rod designer, FFF Master Certified Fly Casting Instructor, and past president of the Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club. He has fly fished around the world but loves the trout and steelhead waters of the Western U.S.

George moved to San Francisco in 2006 to attend the University of San Francisco and began working at Leland Fly Fishing Outfitters, especially on its e-commerce side. In 2013, he launched Lost Coast Outfitters in San Francisco’s Financial District.
