TYPE: Streamer
SIMULATES: Leech
HABITAT: Freshwater
DESIGNED TO TAKE: Trout, Bass, Panfish
BACKGROUND: Originated by Mike Monroe, pro tier and guide out of Sacramento, Calif. Mike casts the fly with a sink-tip line, then "...counts to ten and strips like hell!" Try adding a couple of body length strands of blue Flashabou each side behind head.
MATERIALS:
Hook: Sizes 6 - 10 Mustad #9674 RE, Bronzed
Thread: 3/0 Black Monocord
Body: Black Marabou Barbs
Head: Tying Thread
Tail: Black Marabou Barbs
Rib: Small Diameter Copper Wire
INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Hone point, flatten barb. Start above bend. Tie a clump of about one dozen (12) marabou barbs atop hook, tips extending about 1/2 inch beyond bend. Tie at base of tail a 2 to 2 1/2 inch length of copper wire, then eight (8) marabou barbs by their butts. Barbs should be as long as possible. Trim excess butts. Closely wrap thread to head space.

  2. Closely wrap marabou forward to head space, naturally tapering tips to form a body tapering up from tail to head. Tie down; trim excess.
